More Information About the LiveJournal Abuse Department’s Emergency Contact Information "First Post" Program

Started by rahaeli, the First Post Program provides LiveJournal senior staff and Abuse Team members the ability to contact you outside of LiveJournal (and the online realm) only in the event of an emergency.

If you are interested in participating in this program:

Visit http://www.livejournal.com/update.bml. Create a journal entry with your contact information -- at least your full name, address, date of birth, and phone number(s) where you can be contacted. Optional information would be Instant Messenger contact information, alternate email addresses and alternate phone members.

Now, do the following:

  1. Set the date of the entry for a date far before the actual beginning of your journal -- your birthdate would work well for this.
  2. Check the "backdate entry" option.
  3. Set the security level to "private."
  4. Post your entry.

(note: Of course, you may use your favorite client software to do this as well; please check the respective client's documentation on how to change the posting date of an entry, how to backdate an entry, and how to set the security level for an entry.)

Once that is completed, place a comment in your userinfo that you participate in the First Post Program, and provide a link to the individual entry page. You may use the HTML code provided below to do so.

<center><table border="2"><tr><td><a href="THE URL OF YOUR FIRST POST ENTRY"><img src="http://www.dragonsroost.org/images/livejournal-logo.jpg" border="0" /></a></td><td><b><i><a href="http://www.dragonsroost.org/firstpost.html">In an emergency situation, every second counts.</a></i></b><br />I participate in the LJ Abuse Emergency Contact Information <a href="THE URL OF YOUR FIRST POST ENTRY">First Post</a> program. <br /><font color="red"><b>Do you? <i>The life you save may be your own.</i></b></font></td></tr></table></center>

Change THE URL OF YOUR FIRST POST ENTRY to the link to the individual entry page of your Emergency Contact entry, which should look something like this:

http://yourusername.livejournal.com/#.html

Replace "yourusername" with your username, and the # sign with the correct entry ID number (you can find this in your browser's address bar when you click the comment page of your entry).

The end result will look like this:

In an emergency situation, every second counts.
I participate in the LJ Abuse Emergency Contact Information First Post program.
Do you? The life you save may be your own.
